Perogies and Poetry

Vancouver poet Elizabeth Bachinsky just released her book god of missed connections, stories centered on the connections between Ukraine and Canada. Bachinsky was featured in Shawn Conner’s 10 Questions in the Courier and the last question goes like this:

SC: John K Samson of Winnipeg band the Weakerthans is a fan of your work. Do you have a favourite line from a Weakerthans song?

EB: I think my favourite song is probably “My Favourite Cords.” I love the opening lyrics, “They’re tearing up the streets again. They’re building a new hotel. The mayor’s out killing kids to keep taxes down…” But for some reason I can never get enough of, “When you get off work tonight, meet me at the construction site and we’ll bring some notes to tape to the heavy machines.” I’m all like, okeee then, see you there.
